The biennial Training Grantees Meeting of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) will be held on Thursday and Friday, June 19–20, 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Silver Spring, Maryland. This meeting is open to all NIBIB Training Program Directors and trainees of institutional (T32) training programs, as well as NIBIB predoctoral (F31) and postdoctoral (F32) fellows.

The first day of the meeting will include:
  • Plenary talk by Dr. Martha Gray of MIT.
  • Podium presentations by NIBIB Training Program Directors on the scientific challenges and opportunities in bioimaging and bioengineering.
  • Poster presentations by NIBIB Training Program Directors showcasing their training programs and NIBIB trainees showcasing their latest research.
  • A working lunch panel on career opportunities in academia and industry.
  • An evening reception to allow attendees to meet NIBIB staff and each other.
The second day of the meeting will include:
  • Plenary talk by Dr. James Collins of Boston University.
  • Separate breakout sessions for Program Directors and trainees, where issues specific to each group will be discussed in detail.
    • The Program Directors will learn about the training portfolio and current funding situation and discuss program-specific training challenges and opportunities. This session will be led by Dr. Richard Baird, Director, Division of Interdisciplinary Training.
    • The trainees’ session will include presentations on funding opportunities, grant writing best practices, and the NIH grant review process, followed by an informal question-and-answer session.

There is no registration fee for this meeting. Institutional Training Program Directors and their selected trainees are expected to attend; costs of their attendance are covered by their awards. Individual fellows supported by NIBIB F31 and F32 Fellowships are encouraged to attend; NIBIB will provide up to $500 toward their travel and accommodation expenses.
